vs. TED LASSO
Apple TV approached DAZN to help launch Ted Lasso, a then-unknown comedy series about an American football coach who comes to manage in the Premier League.
My idea was to introduce Ted Lasso to the world during the biggest football match of the year – with some help from José Mourinho, one of the most successful and high profile football managers of all time.
I created two short films in which Lasso (played by Jason Sudeikis) cold calls Mourinho while watching the UEFA Champions League Final, and then wrote the scripts in collaboration with Sudeikis. The sketches were premiered live on DAZN during half-time and full-time of the UCL Final, creating a ‘Super Bowl moment’ during the biggest moment in club football across the globe and hijacking the social conversation with tens of millions of organic views.
The films clearly made a lasting impression on Mourinho – he referenced them a few weeks later during a Spurs press conference.
